Thank you for your positive words about our New York Times Company Nonprofit Excellence Awards program. We really appreciate your support of this approach to promoting and publicizing best practices by nonprofit managers and their boards.

The main purpose of the program is to improve the actual management practices of nonprofits. Accordingly, we encourage all nonprofits to apply (including those with unclear mission statements). We wouldn’t want to disqualify any organization from participating in Part One based on less-than-stellar practices. We prefer to give them the constructive feedback and why their answers may be weak. This approach has proven to yield the most management improvements.

The secondary purpose of the program is to showcase the best managed programs in the NYC area. In that regard, the Times and our collaborating organizations, as well as enthusiastic supporters such as yourself, are extremely helpful allies!

My mistake, it's the Washington Post that collaborates on the awards program in DC - not the Washington Times.

NPCC borrowed the idea of the Nonprofit Excellence Awards from the Center for Nonprofit Advancement and the Washington Times in DC. Their program has been running for over 13 years now. For more information, go to: http://www.nonprofitadvancement.org/newsletter1852/newsletter_show.htm?doc_id=1041188.
